Welcome to the TBR Intervention Challenge!
TBR Intervention is a weekly challenge hosted by  April @ Books4Juliet, Dani @ Refracted Light and Ayanami @ Whatever You Can Still Betray

For information on why and how it was started and information on how to participate, please visit the TBRIC page.

THE BOOK I COMMITTED TO READ:

I've yet to finish Half-Blood and I expect to finish later today. So far, I'm liking it but I'm going to reserve my final judgment when I finish it. Gee, there are new concepts here which I've never encountered before in any book. Concepts like Hematoi and Agapi Mou. As Dani warned, bells are softly ringing.

Additinal Comment (finished reading it):

Turns out, the concepts are not as new as I first saw them in the pages before the actual story. The book's premise has been touched before and I did saw itsy-bitsy pieces that were similar to Vampire Academy but heck, I enjoyed reading it just as much. Five out of five apples.

THE BOOK I COMMIT TO READ THIS WEEK:
Chime
by Franny Billingsley
in my pile since July 2011

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Before Briony's stepmother died, she made sure Briony blamed herself for all the family's hardships. Now Briony has worn her guilt for so long it's become a second skin. She often escapes to the swamp, where she tells stories to the Old Ones, the spirits who haunt the marshes. But only witches can see the Old Ones, and in her village, witches are sentenced to death. Briony lives in fear her secret will be found out, even as she believes she deserves the worst kind of punishment.

Then Eldric comes along with his golden lion eyes and mane of tawny hair. He's as natural as the sun, and treats her as if she's extraordinary. And everything starts to change. As many secrets as Briony has been holding, there are secrets even she doesn't know.

It has been some time since I've read this particular kind of story. Although most of my books deal with paranormal YA, the last few books I've read dealt with paranormal creatures, time travel and reincarnation. Now, the time has come for that old, classic witchy tale.

I trust everyone had a good week. Read the TBRIC book? You had internet connection at least?

P.S. I finally posted my Juliet Immortal review.

  1. That cover is wonderful, Ayanami! The story seems to adhere to a certain genre patter, but I'm tempted to read it anyway! I hope you'll enjoy it - I look forward to your comments!

Also, I hope you finish Halfblood and like it!

  2. Glad I'm not the only one to notice the similarities. lol While I love Vampire Academy, there are things about Half-Blood that I liked better. Chime looks really interesting... I've read the Kindle sample awhile ago, but it wasn't quite what I was in the mood for at the time, so I never finished. Hope that you enjoy it! :)

  3. I loved Half-Blood and it's funny because I never noticed the similarities to VA until people started pointing them out...but it's been a long while since I read VA. LOL. I think Pure will cure those thoughts though...it did for me.

    Good luck with Chime!
