The Joys and Tears of Finishing a Series
Though the Tiger’s Curse series was my first series, it was not the first one I finished. Due to unforeseen issues, I signed a contract to begin my second series, the Reawakened series, before the tiger series was completed. As much as I love the Reawakened series, my mind was still drawn back to my tigers. I was horribly afraid I would forget everything and would mess it up entirely if I waited too long to write the end.
Because of this, I asked my agent to negotiate extra time and permission to publish into my next book contract and my editor and publisher thankfully agreed. Immediately after turning in Reunited, I began work on Tiger’s Dream. It was a difficult process in the beginning. I had to reread the entire series and take mountains of notes. There were a lot of wincing moments as I read lines that could have been written better, but, despite that, I fell just as in love with the story as I had been in the beginning.
These characters felt comfortable. They felt like friends. I loved them and wanted them all to get their happy endings. There were many tears in the reread as my heart broke anew for the ones who were lost on the journey, but I was especially emotional at the end. My poor tigers were left in a place that wasn’t quite right and that needed to be addressed.
Once I began, the book flowed easily. Despite its incredible length, I wrote it quickly. I always knew how the ending would go and when I got there I sobbed as I wrote every word, not only because it was emotional but because I knew it was now time to let them go. Their story was finished. I was finished. Now the only thing that remains, is to share it with my readers.
