8 Ways to Unwind After a Writing Session
Number one is to cook. I love cooking though I don’t do it often because then I eat which is bad because I’ve been dieting since 1977.
Second is to get out of the house. Walking, seeing a movie, hanging out with friends, or shopping are all things I enjoy and it’s one of the only ways for me to shut my mind off, not that its ever shut off completely.
Third—take a nap. I usually don’t let myself do this because it throws off my sleep schedule. If I catnap in the car, I’m typically okay but anything longer than thirty minutes and I have a hard time sleeping.
Number four is to get my nails or hair done or get a massage. Once a month or so I make appointments for these things and they are a great escape.
Five would be to play games on the computer. I’m a bit old school so I just play Ages of Empires or Settlers of Catan but it’s a nice escape that leads into...
Number six, which is, reading. I listen to audiobooks when I walk, do dishes, play games, get dressed, etc. Pretty much I’ve always got my ears if not my eyes plugged into a book.
Seven is to go to a restaurant. I like to go out at least once a week with my mom and/or my hubby for a meal. Getting out of the house gets me out of my head.
Last, number eight, is to go on vacation. I only get to escape once or twice a year but I really like traveling. Most of the time I build my vacations onto book tours or book conferences and take an extra day or two with one of my sisters, my mom, or my husband. Those little getaways make all the difference and it refreshes me enough so I can head back to my desk.
