It is 1942, America has entered World War II, and sickly but determined Steve Rogers is frustrated at being rejected yet again for military service. Everything changes when Dr. Erksine recruits him for the secret Project Rebirth. I'm never one for superhero movies and if it were not for my friends, I would have never watched this movie. But, it was a night out with friends, I was presented with two choices and I went for the one I deemed to be the lesser evil.
Surprisingly, I liked it.
I liked the humor and how the funny lines were delivered impeccably and on the right timing. Tommy Lee Jones dry humor.... classic.
And then Red Skull. Although he was played by Hugo Weaving, the Red Skull costume made me laugh every time he went on screen. I really don't know why, but instead of having adverse feelings for the villain, I found his visage funny, making me snort in order to stifle my giggles.
The plot was believable and realistic. It never went over the top which is my problem with of these kind of movies. No cheesy parts in the romantic moments though I kept a running commentary in my mind on why the female was always made up with red, red lipstick even at camp. Who's got time to put on that kind of makeup? A sentiment shared by my two friends with me.
