Autumn Rustlings

She looked back and gave me that mysterious smile, “You live in your world and I live in mine.  We share the same face and the same destiny, but it doesn’t mean that you would also share my fate.  I let him go, my one true love.  I chose to serve my people than give in to my selfishness.  I made my decision, it is now time to make yours.”

With a parting nod, she lifted her skirts, revealing a pair of dainty feet, took two steps beyond the faerie ring and, with a flutter of her delicate wings, was gone, leaving nothing but the rustling of the autumn leaves as they drifted with the wind on the ground.

I was then left standing, just outside that ring on a foreign land, under the autumn sky.
